UTAG HAS ALLEGEDLY SUSPENDED ITS STRIKE ACTION FOR 30DAYS; AS IT'S YET TO RELEASE AN OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE TO THIS EFFECT

UTAG after going back and forth with the government over issues relating to their low salary levels has finally layed low it's impasse temporary. This was made known in a long Facebook post by their general secretary, Prof. Gyampo Ransford on Thursday, 18 the August at 3:33AM. In this post he said, " It must be reteirated that, UTAG has not called off it's strike, as no demand has been met yet. The strike, per the MoU, has only been suspended, pending the outcome if the one months l negotiation period".

This insinuate that activities may resume in the various Universities as usual for one month where a final release shall be made to either totally call of the strike or continue, depending on the favourable response by government or otherwise.

Its very important to make it clear that the strike has been suspended and hence academic activities may resumes from Monday so as prevent the Universities from a total shutdown per the constitutional provision.

We look forward for campus activities to begin normally from Monday so we can complete the semester graciously.

University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) made on release on Monday, 4th of August 2021 to inform the general public and the University community that they have withdrawn their services and called on all their members to do same. The reason for their strike as stated was to compel their employers for better conditions of service. The strike lasted for 14 days from 4th to 18th of August when it was suspended unofficial by a Facebook post of their general secretary.

Meanwhile, UTAG is yet to release an official communique to this effect as they said in the MoU that they are taking steps to suspend the strike action.
