HOW TO WRITE CV, WITH SAMPLE

Curriculum vitae is a brief document that spelts out ones education, qualifications, personal data among other things. The term was coined from the latin word vitae or vita which means 'course of life's, livelihood or carrier.
This document spelts out at a glance the course of your carrier life and it's relevant in seeking for employment opportunities.
In seeking for employment, the human resource manager would like to know much relevant information about whoever he/she is offering that job opportunity to; and it can only be possible through well written CV.
A well written CV gives you 50% chance that you get the job applied; on the other hand if you carelessly write your CV, be rest assured to miss that brilliant opportunity even though you might be fit for the job.
A CV is just as you are marketing yourself or branding yourself to your employers. And you would have to bare in mind that every employer desire to maximize profitability hence would not expect anything less but expect that you present a good image about yourself which should be reflective of the CV presented.
Your CV can show as to whether you are actually careless or not.
In this write up, I would take you through the steps of writing a good CV;

##Personal data: The first item you should present on your CV is your personal details. It includes: your certificated names(no nicknames), mobile/contact number and email. This is because the HR may not have the time to be searching for your name, email and contact when he or she wants to reach you. So these very important details that locates and identifies you should be the first on the list.
For example:
Name:
Contact:
Email:
How you present it on the page depends on ur style. I will upload mine so you can picture the style I used.
##Personal Profile Statement:
This is brief carrier description of yourself. In a concise statement, let your employer know the your specialisty and the nature/kind of nature he/she is dealing with. It's about you making the first impression so be very mindful as to your choice of words and things you write here.

##Key Skills: A skills is what add value to your carrier or what you are good at doing/what you do at ease. Since yo are marketing yourself, you are expected to present your skills in your field of study. The key verbs or words you use in writing up this statements should be standardized. You cannot just use any word you like.
For example: As a teacher, some of your key Skills might be:
1. Good communicator/orator
2. Problem solving skill
3. Critical thinker
4. Good organiser
5. Team player
Note that your skills as you write should be somehow relevant to the job you are trying to apply .
The skill that one may have differs from profession to profession. The skill of an auto engineer can never be the same a that of a teacher. For example a teacher may be a good communicator whereas an engineer or soldier may not.

##Work Experience: Work experience enumerates in the reverse chronological order your work experience from present to the former. That is your current or present work experience to your first work experience. This would make your employers determine your capabilities and experiences on the job.
This is one of the most relevant part that most CV which employers look out for. Your number of years of experience on the job and you should usually accompany it by citing references since your employers would like to verify the veracity of the information you present to them.
You are also expected to state your responsibilities in each of the cases of your job experiences.
For example:
2010-2020 Teacher by Profession
Responsibilities:
1. Preparation of lessons notes prior to lesson.
2. Imparting of skills and knowhow to students.
3. Guiding students to use computer devices.
4. Supervising students to tidy up compound before start of lesson.
5. Preparing students for BECE.
2015-2020 Sports Secretary
Responsibilities:
1. Supervis students to train and engage in sporting activities.
2. Prepare sports budget to the headteacher to be considered for approval.
Etc....
So you state your position held in that office or carrier which forms part of your job experiences.

##Education/Academic Qualifications/Professional Qualifications
This part is also equally important since it gives you these documental backings of your claims. So it should also be stated in the reverse chronological order from the present qualifications or certification to the first.
For example:
1. 2007-2010 Diploma In Basic Education (DBE)
- Presbyterian College of Education (PCE)

2. 2001-2004 - Senior Secondary Certificate Examination(SSCE)
-City Business College (CIBUSCO)
etc...

#Hobbies/interest:
There it's optional. If you feel that your hobbies are relevant to the job you applying for, you can probably add it. For example: applying for a teaching job with a hobby to be reading adds meaning and value to persuade your employer.

#Additional Information: Any other information you deem as relevant to your acquisition of the job you may add it. Any key note may be added over here.
NB: Remember to state your references at the point where your stated the work experience or you can state it as the last item.

##Signing or endorsement of CV

Endorsing and spending for signature to your CV indicates your given the document the needed authenticity. It will be very detrimental to prepare a CV without appending your signature to it.

Also note that the background and layout or design of your CV is an added advantage.

Don't just present anything anyhow but use pain to prepare your CV.

Below is a sample of a CV. A prepared; it can serve as a guide to preparing yours...
